Pennsylvania Act 86 of June, 2016, allows current students enrolled in a qualifying teacher preparation program, working toward Pennsylvania Certification, to work as a substitute teacher.

 

To substitute, you must meet all of the criteria listed below:

 

* You must be at least 18 years of age and a United States citizen,

* You must be currently enrolled in a Pennsylvania State college or university,

* You must be enrolled in a qualifying Teacher Preparation Program,

* You must have acquired 60 college credits to date,

 

Term:

An individual who participates in the program can serve as a substitute for no more than 10 days per school year for a single employee and no more than a total of 20 days per school year.
 
Renewal:
The permit will be valid for one school year and can be renewed for one additional school year if the individual provides documentation that he or she has completed an additional 15 credit hours from a college/university in Pennsylvania and remains enrolled in a college/university in Pennsylvania.

 

If you are selected, you will be required to have up-to-date clearances, physical, TB test, and other pre-employment materials completed prior to working for the District.

 

The daily rate of pay for a day-to-day substitute teacher is as follows: 

 

 

2023-2024 School Year

Classroom: $155 per day

Emotional Support and Autistic Support Classroom: $165 per day
